Mustang Softball Team Seeking GBL Title
|– Allison Goldsberry
The Medford Mustang softball team is in contention to repeat as Greater Boston League champion following a 6-4 win over Everett on Monday.
Freshman Halle Farrell ignited the team’s offense with a three run homer in the first inning, according to Head Coach Jack Dempsey. Farrell followed up with a two run double in the third inning that gave Medford a 6-0 lead before Everett threatened a comeback.
Senior captain Brianna Napoleone, among the state’s top batters with 30 RBI’s and a .646 average, contributed four hits. Captain Bailey Flynn, also a top batter with a .595 average, contributed three hits. Senior captain Julia Kearney once again played a strong game behind the plate and lined a big double to center field, said Coach Dempsey. Senior third baseman Julia Mitrano pitched in with a single and some very nice defensive plays.
Per usual junior captain Ashley Eisnor dominated on the mound. She spun a five hitter, striking out eleven Crimson Tide batters en route to her tenth win of the season.
The Lady Mustangs now stand on top of the GBL with a 4 and 1 record. Medford is 10-4 overall and has qualified for the state tournament for the seventh straight season.
A win over Somerville on Wednesday would give Medford the GBL title outright. Medford hosts Somerville at 3:45PM at Columbus Park.
