Primary for City Council Candidates Sept. 1st
|A primary is being held to narrow the field of candidates seeking a seat on the Medford City Council on Tuesday, September 1.
Sixteen candidates, including five incumbents, are in the running. Ballot details are available on the city’s website.
The primary is only for Council candidates since there aren’t enough candidates running for Mayor and School Committee to require a primary.
According to City Clerk Ed Finn, the top fourteen candidates from the September 1st primary will be on the ballot for the November election.
The last time the city held a primary election for Council candidates was on September 11, 2001.

Perhaps the most interesting primary in the past 40 years. The turnout will most likely be light with the Mayoral race being the big draw. All the primary will do is give us an indication of how motivated residents are two months before the general election.
