Mayoral Candidate Burke Seeks Public Input on Parking
|As I continue to visit with the residents of Medford, I am keenly aware of the insight that our residents have and their willingness to share their ideas for a better Medford. In this regard, I would like to provide the following update to a press release I issued on July 20, 2015 concerning the parking program. I believe these two ideas have a great deal of merit and should be looked at to determine if they would meet the needs of the City as a whole.
- Would you be supportive of exempting Senior Citizens from having to pay to park in the City? This could be accomplished similar to the Handicap Placard that exists currently. Our seniors have provided us with so much opportunity in this City. While meters/kiosks are in place in Medford and many of the surrounding communities, I believe our seniors should not have to encounter any frustrations in their daily lives.
- Would you be supportive of a resident pass that would allow you to park without using a kiosk/meter? If so, how much do you think it should cost? There is a cost to convenience and as I am hearing on the street, people are willing to pay a fee for this convenience.
Lastly, do you think the City would benefit from re-building a garage on Governors Avenue? As you may be aware, the City investigated the building of a garage with millions of dollars being absorbed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This met with limited support from the City Council and the topic was abandoned. Now, years later, do you think it would allow for greater Business and Commuter Permit opportunities? Do you think it could possibly provide for overnight parking to engage developers in increasing the housing stock in Medford Square?
I have set up a survey online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6Z6Y3Q5, you could send me a note to 5 Headland Way, or email me at Survey@Burke2016Mayor.com. I look forward to hearing your responses.
Further, I want to continue to listen to your suggestions to make the City of Medford a better place to live, work and own or develop a business. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at Stephanie@Burke2016Mayor.com or 781-391-8864. I will continue to be the qualified candidate that is respectful, informed and will always use a positive approach.
