Tufts Community Concert Series Presents ‘Tall Tale Trio’
|The Tufts University Department of Music presents the Tall Tale Trio Concert featuring performance faculty pianist Michael McLaughlin, bassist Andrew Blickenderfer, and drummer Gary Fieldman. The performance will be on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 3 p.m. in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center.
Fueled by the inspirational compositions of bassist Andrew Blickenderfer, Tall Tale Trio brings jazz into the chamber music setting with a delicate balance of improvisation and composition containing constant surprise, whim and potpourri of style. Tall Tale Trio was formed in 2012, when Blickenderfer brought pianist Michael McLaughlin and drummer Gary Fieldman together for a reading of his works. Since then they have been playing throughout the Boston area. All three musicians come from a unique background of performance traditions. Trained at a young age in Classical music, by their late teens the three were venturing into jazz, free-improv, and various ethnic music traditions from Senegalese pop to klezmer to Armenian jazz. All of these influences come together to create a sound reminiscent of jazz artists like Keith Jarrett and Eberhard Weber, but clearly original and fresh in its creative voice.
This concert is presented as part of the Sunday at Tufts – Community Concert Series. The Granoff Music Center is located at 20 Talbot Avenue on Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit as.tufts.edu/music/musiccenter or call the Granoff Music Center Box Office at 617.627.3679.
