|On Veterans Day a dedication ceremony was held for a street corner and park bench named in honor of Major Tom Convery at Park Street and the Fellsway. Convery, a veteran of three ways, passed away in 2013 at the age of 88.
Convery was a Civics and History teacher for the Medford Public School system for more than 25 years. While director of the job placement program he found jobs for more than 27,000 students and citizens of Medford.
Convery was extremely active in the community, and founded both the Salem Street Business Association and the Mustang Hall of Fame. He interviewed nearly 100 WWII veterans from Medford for an oral history project that was submitted to the Library of Congress and is the author of six books whose sales raised nearly $40,000 for charity.
Convery, married for over 60 years to his wife, Beverly, has five children, Tom, Mark, Beth, Tim, and Dorothy, and numerous grand-children.
The bench is located in Hickey Park, which is across from the Park Street home where Convery grew up.
