Students, Video Contest Winners Attend MIAA Sportsmanship Summit

On November 20th a group of Medford High School student athletes, coaches, and Mayor Michael McGlynn attended the 22nd Annual MIAA Sportsmanship Summit at Gillette Stadium. Three MHS students were attending as winners of a video contest.

The highlight of the summit came when Medford High’s Gigi Braga, Katrina Raschi, and Victoria Raschi, seniors in a video production class with teacher Jack Dempsey, won first place in the 15th annual MIAA student sportsmanship multimedia contest.

The students won a cash prize and presented their video as honored guests during the summit. Their video will also be published in a compilation entitled “Sportsmanship: A Game Plan For Life, Volume XV.”

The video focuses on the efforts of the softball team to honor the legacy of Boston Marathon bombing victim and Medford native Krystle Campbell.

The Medford High group consisted of Mayor McGlynn, Coach Jack Dempsey, Coach Josh Glionna, Coach John Skerry, Justin Kelley, Tyres Stroud, Dora Barrett, Patricia MacLean, Gigi Braga, Katrina Raschi, and Victoria Raschi.

Over 500 student athletes and coaches throughout the state attended breakout sessions throughout the day to learn about spreading sportsmanship through the MIAA’s Battle of the Fan’s contest. Guest speaker Mike Smith also spoke about ways to incorporate sportsmanship into a school community.
