In Photos: Mayor McGlynn Says Good-Bye
|On New Year’s Eve Mayor Michael McGlynn was joined by his family at City Hall as he bid good-bye on his last day in office.
McGlynn, retiring after twenty-eight years, was the state’s longest serving mayor. January 4, 2016, will mark the first time since 1956 that neither Mayor McGlynn or his father, Jack, will be representing the citizens of Medford at City Hall or the State House.
On his last day McGlynn was joined by his staff, city employees, and well wishers as he delivered his final ceremonial keys to the city and other citations. He also donated several items to the Medford Historical Society, including Harry Truman’s hat and a bottle of rum that was one of the last distilled in Medford in 1895.
One of McGlynn’s last officials acts as Mayor was to sign the paperwork to establish a trust fund with $173,500 for the maintenance of the Krystle Campbell Peace Garden, which will honor victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.
The following photos are from the city’s Facebook page (the full album is available here).

Letters, posters, and other memorabilia from his twenty-eight years were available outside of McGlynn’s office for people to view and keep.

Mayor McGlynn shared lots of laughs- and even some tears- with the crowd.
