Burke Begins 1st Term Mayoral Term
|Mayor Stephanie M. Burke took the oath of office as the 32nd Mayor of Medford on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Medford High School before a crowd of residents, students, faith leaders, and elected officials.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, Attorney General Maura Healey, State Senator Patricia Jehlen, State Representatives Christine Barber, Paul Donato, and Sean Garballey, the newly elected Medford School Committee and City Council and others joined Mayor Burke on the stage.
Attorney General Maura Healey administered the oath of office to the Mayor, flanked by her mother and daughter.
Mayor Burke set out goals that are achievable within the next six months in her address. They ranged from the development of an interactive website to introducing quarterly ward meetings in neighborhoods to creating new positions in the Mayor’s Office to connect with the community.
In closing, Mayor Burke reflected on revived civic engagement in the City, saying “… a touch upon this past mayoral election which some may refer to it as adversarial. I believe it brought a spirited dialogue and renewed excitement in the election process and to those citizens that participated, I thank you. Medford is ignited!â€
The tireless Inaugural Committee, Medford High School students, Medford Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and the businesses that participated made the event possible.
The Inaugural Committee is as follows: Chairperson Ann Marie Callahan, Brian Callahan, Andree Pierre-Paul, Rose Mary Ardagna, Roy Belson, Kelly Catallo, Linda Coletti, Rita Corneilio, Jack Dempsey, Lisa Dunphy, Jill Flaherty, Judy Lonergan, Robert Maiocco, John McLaughlin, Tony Szykniej and Rich Trotta.
The MHS Vocal Quartet, MHS Choral Ensemble and MHS Band Ensemble accompanied the event.
The Medford Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts collected non-perishable food items to be donated to the Community Cupboard Food Pantry.
The following businesses and groups generously donated their time or products: Acardi Foods D’Alelio Management, Donuts with a Difference, Espresso Plus, Hoff’s Bakery, Medford Vocational Technical High School, Modern Pastry, Mystic Coffee Roaster, Peterson Party Center, PepsiCo, Robert Rosselle, Stop and Shop, Tasty on the Hill, Whole Foods.
