MWRA Pipe Repair May Cause Discolored Water in Areas of Medford March 22- Updated
|March 21, 2016 Update:
Due to the weather, the MWRA’s scheduled work will begin Tuesday, March 22, 2016. For further details, please contact Jeff McLaughlin at jeffrey.mclaughlin@mwra.com, (617) 305-5762, or MWRA’s 24-hour water line at (617) 305-5950.
On Monday, March 21, 2016, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be isolating a water main in Medford in order to replace a large valve on Mystic Avenue.
This work may result in discolored water in parts of Medford and Somerville for up to three days following the isolation. The potential affected area in Medford is shown on the map below.
Somerville may see discolored water in the areas of Central Street and Tufts University.
No disruption to water service is expected. The entire project is expected to take about three weeks to complete.
If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in local pipes. Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents may want to wait for the water to clear before using it.
If you have any questions, please call Jeff McLaughlin at (617) 305-5762, or MWRA’s 24-hour water line at (617) 305-5950.
