The Medford High School Girls Softball team opened up the 2016 season with a strong 8-0 victory over Middlesex League opponent Winchester on Monday.
Senior Captain Ashley Eisnor continued where she left off last year by pitching a brilliant three hit shut out while striking out ten batters. She also collected her first RBI of the season with a sac fly.
Fellow senior captains Renee Staude (a double, two singles, two RBI’s, and two runs scored) and Gigi Braga (two hits, two runs, a stolen base, and RBI) contributed in a big way to the win, said Coach Jack Dempsey.
Freshmen Carmen Dorio (a double, sac fly, and two RBI’s) and Brenna Forbes (a double, run scored, and RBI) played well in their first varsity game. Senior Katrina Raschi had a key double and sophomore Halle Farrell banged out a single, stole second base, and scored a run. Juniors Kerriann Loutraris and Dana Williams contributed two base hits to the ten hit Lady Mustang attack.
Medford’s next game will be played Saturday in the third Annual Krystle Campbell Softball Tournament. Medford and Arlington Catholic will compete in the first game at 11 AM. The event raises money for a scholarship in memory of Krystle.
