MHS & MVTHS Remember Krystle Campbell As They Mark “One Boston Day” Apr. 15th

The students and staff at Medford High School (MHS) and the Medford Vocational Technical High School (MVTHS) will mark “One Boston Day”, Friday, April 15TH, in memory of Medford High School 2001 graduate Krystle Campbell who was killed during the terrorist attacks at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.

“One Boston Day” gives everyone the opportunity to do something positive in remembrance of Krystle and all those lost and injured in the Bombings. Moreover, it provides each us the opportunity to do something positive as we all move forward from that horrible day”, said Superintendent Roy Belson.

“On the anniversary of the bombings, we would rather focus on the positive and are encouraging our students and staff to perform a random act of kindness, or to “pay it forward. Giving to those in need, is clearly something Krystle would have done”, said MHS Headmaster Dr. John Perella.

“I have been told her smile could light up a room. Her spirit lives on here and from what I have heard, she was the first one to always lend a helping hand”, said MVTHS Principal/Director Dr. Heidi Riccio.

Students and staff are being asked to remember Krystle by making a donation to Hope’s Closet or to a local homeless shelter. Donations will be accepted all week at Medford High School, beginning April 11-15, 2013. Hope’s Closet is looking for donations of gently used clothing, jackets, and professional wear for male and female students. All sizes are graciously accepted. In addition, school supplies such as back packs, lined paper, (3) ring binders, pens and pencils are also being accepted. These donations can be left with Ms. Kathy Johnson, 3rd Floor, Assistant Principal’s Office, from 7 AM – 3 PM.

Medford High School Junior, Daniella Ramirez, is conducting a drive for (2) homeless shelters. She is hoping students and staff will donate personal care items, such as disposable razors, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, as well as, new socks and underwear. In addition, the shelters are looking for non-perishable food items, such as protein bars, peanut butter, raisins and nut mixes. These donations can be left in a box inside the Superintendent’s Office.

Annually, Krystle Campbell is honored by the Medford High School Girls Softball Team as they host the Krystle Campbell Memorial Softball Tournament, which this year, will be held April 16th and 17th. Medford High School will face Arlington Catholic in the opening round, on Saturday/16th at 11 AM at Columbus Park. “All are welcome to come out and support the team and the Krystle Campbell Memorial Scholarship Fund”, said Head Coach Jack Dempsey.
