Mustang Softball Team Shuts Out Malden
|– Allison Goldsberry
The Medford High School girls softball team continued their winning ways with a hard-fought 6-0 victory over their perennial Greater Boston League rival the Malden Tornadoes.
Once again the local nine were led by the strong pitching and hitting of senior captain Ashley Eisnor. Eisnor tossed her third shutout of the season, limiting the Malden team to just two hits while striking out eight batters. Eisnor also banged out a “tremendous” two-run home run against the wind and added another hit, giving her three RBIs for the day, said Coach Jack Dempsey.
Senior captain Gigi Braga chipped in with two hits, two stolen bases, and two runs scored while freshman Brenna Forbes also had two hits and two stolen bases. Senior captain Renee Staude came through with a clutch two-run double and freshman Carmen Diorio slammed a two-base hit, driving home a key run in the sixth inning. Junior Kerriann Loutraris also contributed a solid single.
The Lady Mustangs’ record now stands at six wins and one loss heading into Monday’s home game at Columbus Park against Everett.
