7th Annual Harvest Your Energy Festival Oct. 1st
Looking for a way to get outside this fall? Come enjoy a lovely day by the Mystic River at Medford’s 7th Annual Harvest Your Energy Festival. The festival is a community event centered on environmental sustainability and renewable energy. Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 1st from 12-3 PM behind the McGlynn Elementary school at the base of Medford’s wind turbine (rain location inside the school).
Free Electronics Recycling (except TVs $25 and monitors $15) and fabric and shoe recycling will be provided on site. Fabric recycling will benefit the Medford PTOs. Details on what will be accepted are available on the Festival website: http://medfordenergy.org/harvestyourenergy/.
The Harvest Your Energy Festival features attractions for the whole family. This year we are excited to have the popular musician Alastair Moock performing at 2PM. Attendees will have the opportunity to ride in 24-foot “canoemobiles†on the Mystic River provided by the National Park Service and Groundwork Somerville.
Two Medford Square restaurants will be selling food, the very popular Chicken and Rice Guys and newcomer Sura BBQ (Korean food). Local group Trail Mix will perform at noon and this year’s Medford Green Awards will be presented to Medford businesses, organizations and residents at 1PM.
The activities this year also include free tours of “Windy†the wind turbine, a bicycle stunt rider and live animals from the Stone Zoo.
The festival will feature over 30 exhibitors offering demonstrations, educational materials, children’s activities, and samples of their products. Exhibitors include Medford School classes, energy companies, nonprofits, government agencies, and local Medford businesses of all kinds. Another big draw each year is our free raffle – be sure to stop by a check-in table to receive your free raffle ticket entry to win one of our many exciting prizes. You must be present to win. Raffle prizes include a 2-month membership to the Boston Sports Club, a compost bin, a voucher for 2 free deliveries from Boston Organics, $50 gift certificate from Yoki in Stations Landing and gift certificates donated by Danish Pastry House, Borealis Community Yoga, Dance Caliente, and more.
