Photos and Video: Medford Opens Krystle Campbell Peace Garden- Updated
|On Sunday, September 25 the city held a special ceremony to unveil the Krystle Campbell Peace Garden. The garden honors all victims of the bombings and includes commemorative plaques for Medford native Campbell as well as Lingzi Lu, Martin Richard and MIT Police Officer Sean Collier. It’s located in Medford Square on green space in front of the Senior Center on Riverside Avenue. The garden includes a central fountain, benches, mile markers from the Boston Marathon route, and Campbell’s favorite, the sunflower.
Members of the victims’ families and survivors attended Sunday’s ceremony, including Campbell’s family, Collier’s parents, Richards’ family, and survivor Roseann Sdoia.
Medford has raised $1.1 million for the development of the Peace Garden through state grants and private donations, and several thousands of dollars have been raised to maintain the garden once it is constructed.
Krystle’s parents, Bill and Patty Campbell, laid a single white rose on her plaque with Mayor Stephanie Muccini Burke.
