Girls JV Soccer Team Builds Strong Winning Record
|On September 12th the girls junior varsity soccer team traveled to Reading and picked up at victory over Austin Prep 2-1. Thanks to a goal in each of the first half and second half the Mustangs jumped out to a two goal lead. Eighth grader Amy Orcutt stated the scoring two minutes into the game. Sophomore Kayla Dell’Anno broke past the AP defense and added the eventual game winning goal. The Cougars scored with four minutes left to cut the lead in half but the Mustang defense stepped up to close out the game.
Three days later the Mustangs stayed on the winning track picking up a 7-0 win over Everett at Edgerly field. Orcutt provided the bulk of the offense attack netting four goals. Sofia Bendok and Morgan Adamos turned aside all the Crimson Tide shot to combine for the teams second shutout of the season.
On a Saturday morning at Methuen the JV Mustangs earned a 2-2 tie. The Mustangs played with a lead the majority of the game thanks to sophomore Kayla Dell’Anno’s two goals. The Rangers were able to score a goal in the final minute to secure the tie. The Rangers goalie made many timely saves throughout the game.
During the Everett and Methuen games the team participated in the MIAA concussion awareness week by wearing orange ThinkTaylor,org wristbands.
The Mustangs returned to Greater Boston League action and picked up their fourth win of the season with a 4-0 victory over the Somerville Highlanders. The Mustang defensive unit of Julianne D’Orazio, Samantha Liu, Joyselen Lopes, Taheisha Joseph, Marisa MacGilvray, Audrey Soule, and Ryleigh McLaughlin played a big role in securing the teams third shutout of the season. The Mustang offense received a goal for Rachel Klein in the first half. The second half the Mustangs pulled away with two goals from Orcutt and a goal from Dell’Anno.
For the second time this season the JV earned a 7-0 victory; this time it was against Lowell. The offense wasted no time scoring two goals in the first three minutes as part of a six goal lead at halftime. Morgan Adamos, Amy Urcott, and Emma Burke each scored a goal and Audrey Soule and Kayla Dell’Anno both scored twice. For Dell’Anno it was her fifth straight game with at least one goal.
The Mustangs returned to GBL play and used a consistent offensive attack of four goals in the first half and four goals in the second half to be victorious over Malden 8-0. Orcutt (3 goals), Burke (3 goals), Dell’Anno (2 goals) provided the scoring. For Dell’Anno it was her fifth straight game with at least one goal.
Next up was the Witches of Salem and the Mustang’s Rachel Klein wasted no time scoring thirty seconds into the game. Behind four goals in the first twenty one minutes the JV Mustangs topped Salem 6-1.
Playing their only night game of the season the JV defeat Everett 6-0 under the light at the Madeline English School. Three goals in the first half and three goals in the second half secured the victory. The goals came from Burke and Orcutt each scoring two goals and Sofia Bendok and Samantha Liu adding a goal apiece.
For the first time in five weeks the junior varsity lost a game as Haverhill topped Medford 4-1 at Haverhill High. The Hillies scored two goals in the first five minutes and two more in the last two minutes to secure the win.
The JV Mustangs have a record of 8-2-1 outscoring opponents 49-12. The junior varsity roster includes Sofia Bendok, Kayla Dell’Anno, Julianne D’Orazio, Samantha Liu, Morgan Adamos, Joyselen Lopes, Taheisha Joseph, Amy Orcutt, Emma Burke, Marisa MacGilvray, Audrey Soule, Ryleigh McLaughlin, Angelina Spinosa, Rachel Klein, and Jaeda Hamel.
