Large Turnout for Budget Forum
|Sen. Jehlen, Medford Reps Discuss State BudgetÂ
Story Updated 7:21PM Tuesday, April 7, 2009
At least one hundred people packed into Century Bank on Wednesday night to hear State Senator Pat Jehlen and State Representatives Paul Donato, Carl Sciortino, and Sean Garballey discuss the state budget and federal stimulus money. Several speakers discussed the budget, including David Sullivan, Esq. Legal Counsel, Governor’s Office of Administration and Finance; Noah Berger, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center; and Judy Meredith, Executive Director of the Public Policy Institute and Outreach Director of One Massachusetts. A question and answer session followed the speakers. Photo courtesy Matt Haberstroh.

Senator Jehlen’s event was packed. As I was driving to the event from Boston you could see the people on the 5th floor from Route 93 – and a big neon sign on the building Welcome Senator Jehlen. There was a really funny moment when Carl Sciortino or someone near him said he was taller than Rep Donato and someone else (or maybe one of them) said “and younger” and Paul gave Carl a big hug. Didn’t take my notes on that but the audience was impressed. What was also interesting was in the elevator after the event – people were praising Senator Jehlen, one woman noting how well she’s fit into Charlie Shannon’s big shoes and that she gives as much attention to Medford as she does to Somerville. It was good to hear praise for the Senator. Century Bank gave out post-it-notes with their logo when people were leaving. The coffee was empty when I got there but the shrimp was great.
