How’s the Weather Up There?
|A worker recently performed some maintenance- 131 feet in the air- on Medford’s wind turbine. The turbine, located at the McGlynn School complex, is the first commercial scale wind turbine installed at a public school in the state. It generates about 10% of the school’s electricity, which represents a savings of $25,000 to the city and an estimated 76 tons of carbon dioxide to the environment. It was installed in January. What about the turbine they have had at Hull High for many years? Is that not “commercial scale”?
This is according to city officials.
I’m not questioning your reporting, Allison, but this lovely little turbine is not nearly as big or old as Hull High’s turbine — see http://www.hullwind.org/history.php for a description. They have had an operating turbine since the mid 1980’s, and their current turbine produces about 10 times as much power at Hull High than the estimate for the McGlynn turbine.
Don’t worry, Dave, I definitely invite people to question all reporting, including my own! I was reporting information that was provided to me by city officials. It’s possible they know something other than what you’ve found about the Hull turbine, and it’s possible they could be wrong.
