City Council Meeting Tuesday Night

Budget, Flooding Solutions, TV3 on Agenda

The Medford City Council will tackle several important issues during two meetings on Tuesday night.

The Council will hold a Committee of the Whole meeting at 6:00PM before its regular meeting at 7:00PM. The meeting will take place in Room 207 at Medford City Hall and items on the agenda include a preliminary discussion about the fiscal 2011 municipal budget, state aid, billboard proposals, the sale of the Fulton School, and the city’s traffic and parking enforcement proposal.

Agenda items for the Council’s regular meeting at 7:00PM include a proposal by Mayor Michael McGlynn to fund an analysis of flooding problems and sewage backups in the city to prevent future flood damage and a discussion about “inappropriate” programming at TV3.

Mayor McGlynn is asking the Council to allocate $250,000 each from the Water Enterprise and Sewer Enterprise accounts to hire consultants for the flooding analysis. The Mayor said the goal of the analysis is to come up with a plan for “corrective action” to prevent future flooding damage.

City Councilor Robert Penta has a resolution about what the Council and several concerned residents believe to be “inappropriate” programming at TV3:

“Be it Resolved that I would like to thank the many folks who have called to support the resolution and discussions offered by Councillor Maiocco and Councillor Penta last week for exposing the irresponsible and much needed corrective action to be taken at the Channel 3 station management for their inappropriate programming especially during prime time,” reads Councilor Penta’s resolution.

Medford resident Joe Viglione will also speak before the Council about TV3.

The Council’s regular meeting at 7:00PM will be broadcast live on Channel 16.
