Mayor: New Trash, Recycling Program a Success

The city’s new trash and recycling containers.

Mayor Michael McGlynn has declared the first two weeks of the city’s new trash and recycling program a success.

“It is gratifying to see our citizens taking such an ownership of this new program. The early results speak for themselves. Medford is very enthusiastic about being a part of this most important project and to see our recycling numbers more than double in only the second week is very encouraging. As I have said since the very beginning, this new trash/recycling program will be a win-win for everyone … the citizens, the city and our environment.”

According to Mayor McGlynn, trash removal has decreased by 217 tons and recycling has increased by 61 tons.

The city switched to a new trash and recycling program on November 1 in which residents were issued two containers, one 96 gallon container for recyclable items and a 64 gallon container for trash. Recycling no longer needs to be sorted and can all be mixed together in the larger bin.
