An elderly woman was rescued from Wrights Pond on Wednesday thanks to an alert swimmer.
According to information released by Mayor Michael McGlynn’s office, a young male found a 68-year-old female underwater. He immediately called for help, and the woman was attended to by lifeguards and an off-duty nurse. CPR was administered to the woman.
Medford Fire and Armstrong Ambulance responded to the scene. The woman, who still had a pulse, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment.
There is no word on her condition and no further details have been released.
In 2012, quick-thinking swimmers and high school lifeguards saved a 3-year-old girl from drowning at Wrights Pond. The Mayor held a press conference with the family of the little girl and awarded keys to the city to the five youth involved in her rescue.
I was right there and witnessed the entire incident. Once the boy notified one of the lifeguards (who were not on or near the lifeguard stand), a female lifeguard swam in and was trying to bring the unconscious woman to shore, when Corrections Officer Maurice Magras ran in and carried the woman out. Then off-duty nurseTrish Flanagan and Mr. Magras began performing CPR on the woman. After what seemed an eternity, Ms. Flanagan felt a weak pulse. That was when the Medford Police & EMTs arrived to take her out in an ambulance. The boy and those two Heroes saved tjat woman’s life!
You are forgetting the lifeguard that gave rescue breathing?? Really the lifeguard did his work. Shame on you for not seeing that!!
You witnessed what you wanted too..
Once park rangers realized what was going on, the other lifeguard was notified and sprinted down immediately. Returning to the guard shack to get a medical device to help with rescue breathing. The guard was assisted by a retired member of Boston EMS while the guard instructed the female guard to get the AED. Another guard showed up from break and was instructed to help with crowd control and directing PD and FIRE.
